What is DTF Printing?

DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing is a printing method where a design is first printed onto a special PET transfer film using specialized inks. A hot-melt adhesive powder is then applied to the printed design, cured, and finally transferred onto a garment using a heat press.

Unlike DTG, DTF does not print directly onto the fabric. Instead, the printed transfer is pressed onto the garment, making it compatible with a wide range of materials.

How DTF Printing Works

1. Design is printed onto a PET transfer film.
2. Hot-melt adhesive powder is applied to the wet ink.
3. The powder is cured using heat.
4. The transfer is placed on the garment.
5. A heat press bonds the design to the fabric.
6. The film is peeled away, leaving the finished print.

Advantages of DTF Printing

• Works on cotton, polyester, blends, nylon, canvas, denim, and more.
• Produces bright, vibrant colors with excellent opacity.
• Highly durable and resistant to cracking and peeling when properly applied.
• No garment pretreatment is required.
• Suitable for both small custom orders and larger production runs.
• Can print intricate designs, gradients, and photographic artwork.

Disadvantages

• The print has a slightly thicker feel than DTG because it sits on the surface of the fabric.
• Heat pressing is required after printing.
• Lower-quality films or adhesives can affect durability and finish.

Advantages

• Excellent for full-color, detailed designs and photographs.

Disadvantages

• More expensive per shirt for large quantities than screen printing.

Print Quality

• DTG: The ink becomes part of the fabric, giving a natural, breathable feel.
• DTF: The print sits on top of the fabric, resulting in brighter colors and excellent stretch resistance.

How do I place an order?

Buying an AVY Fashions product is simple:

How can I check if my order was placed successfully?

If the package cannot be delivered, it will be returned to our warehouse.
